Dr. Huls grew up in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa for undergraduate and medical school. He completed his residency at Bayfront Medical Center in Florida. He then completed his fellowship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he also earned a Master of Science in Endocrinology and Reproductive Physiology.
Following his fellowship, Dr. Huls joined Phoenix Perinatal Associates where he was attracted to Phoenix Perinatal Associates as the only maternal-fetal medicine practice for a community OB/GYN residency program. Dr. Huls wanted to continue teaching and was interested in opportunities for becoming involved as faculty for the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix.
During his time at Phoenix Perinatal Associates, Dr. Huls became the director for research and education, collaborated to develop the Center of Excellence for Placenta Accreta – the first and only specialty program designated by the Arizona Perinatal Trust, maintaining fetal therapy within the state of Arizona – and most recently developing a maternal-fetal medicine fellowship program with the department chair, Dr. Mike Foley.
Dr. Huls is also the practice medical director, maternal-fetal medicine section chief and the maternal-fetal medicine fellowship director for Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix.
